Learning Intentions
Lesson eight will be time to re-cap, discuss and revise as a class previous lessons in preparation for the assignments and examination. In depth revision of lesson seven: Magazine covers will be focused on for the main part of the lesson. Assignment 1: In class short exam, should be completed in the last 30 min time period. This exam will be 10 short answer and choice questions covering only topics discussed in lessons over the previous weeks. |
Learning activities
5 mins : Intro to lesson planned for today. Run through timing for lesson. 5 mins: The closed book exam will be held for the last 30 mins of this period. Only what we have covered over this course will be included in the exam questions. 10 questions of short answer and choice questions. We will be putting away all previous work and notes, and having silent class time for 30 mins to complete the exam. 2 hours : Main. Run through techniques learnt from previous lessons covering - Different styles of Photography. Can we name all the types of photography styles we have covered and any others you know of. What gives different photographs their style i.e how do we know what type of photography? What are the typical connotations of each style? - Go more in to depth of 'Portraiture' as covered in week two. What makes a portrait? Talk me through how we would create a basic studio and lighting setting. Why would we use a studio and lighting to create a portrait image? - Photoshop. As a class, lets brainstorm all the editing techniques we know using Adobe Photoshop. What effect would we get from these techniques? -Magazine covers. Class discussion on key notes from previous lessons. Quickly run through keynotes from this lesson. Does anyone have anything they would like to ask or add? - Connotations of magazine covers. Why are they important? What information do we receive about the magazine by seeing the cover on a shelf? How do we recognise the genre? Who is the intended reader? - Use a few examples of different magazines taken from the internet and displayed on the board, and ask the students to comment on the cover and what genre they believe the magazine to be and why. Describe the layout, photo/imagery used, fonts, colours and background. - Why is it important that these aspects of magazine cover design are carefully considered. Why do you think magazines use 'House designs' when creating magazines and the covers? 30 mins. For this remaining 30 mins of teaching time, we will be sitting a short exam of 10 questions. -Hand out exam papers and make sure everyone has something to write with. Explain the exam is expected to be completed and in silence to ensure everyone can concentrate and it is everyones own work. 5 Mins: After the half hour time period, ask students to put down their pens and turn over their exams downward facing. Collect in the papers and explain to students they will receive their marks back by next weeks lesson. - Run through next weeks lesson and ask the students to log onto the website to re-cap and revise for lesson 9 as its will be held for assignment 2. - There will be revision questions posted on the forum for everyone to look at and get involved with over the week. A couple of hours at home revision time is recommended so you are as prepared as possible. It is also an option to post your own questions on the forum where I will regulate and respond, and also your classmates may respond. |

Evaluation
Evaluation for this Lesson will be based on the exam paper. General involvement, attention and correspondence will be expected during re-cap and revision. The exam is 10 questions on topics that have been covered in the previous weeks lessons. The exam is made up of short answer (100-200 words) and choice questions. 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer. This short exam counts towards 10% of the grading for this unit. |
