Unit overviews
Year 10
In this Unit you will learn Photography basics. Each week we have something new to study and will be using class study, class discussions, group work, individual work and self study. 2 sets of homework will be given in weeks 3 and 4, followed by the end of term assignment in week 7.
What we will learn in this unit
This Unit is set out so that students will learn the basics of a DSLR camera, some basic modes and how to use them and then putting that work into practice. As well as creating your own photographs and images, you will be taking inspiration from other work from around the work to help you appreciate and analyse different types of photography, and also understand them through exploration.
By the end of this unit you will have a clear understanding of Photography basics:- How to use a macro lens and a 300mm lens and what you can achieve by manipulating effects, how to systematically 'set up' a photograph using composition and Visual Arts, and how to critically reflect on your photographs and also other photographs and images you may find. Group work is also set in this unit to give you the chance to 'mingle' with other students in your class, and explore each others ideas and inspire each other. It will help you build on 'working with others' skills and understanding other people's points of view as you're focusing on a creative and speculative subject.
Equipment
You will need at home internet and a personal computer to use. Accesses to a printer is also necessary.
A DSLR is essential for use in this unit, however you will be able to use one on loan from the school. As you will only need use of a DSLR for in-class work, it is not essential that you own your own camera, however for practice and self study purposes, they will come in handy if you decide to carry on with further Photography studies. (Also great if you are interested in Photography as a hobby!)
